There are a lot of strategies you can employ in Ashes. Being the kind of guy I am I like to play games where I try to exploit them (and then claim I am doing my job by providing design feedback about our games). I’ve done bomber rushes, gone hard into radioactives to try to rush t3 dreadnoughts and skip the lower level ships entirely, I’ve avoided the economy entirely and tried to deathball directly at my opponent’s seed, I’ve engineer rushed to drop defenses ar...

In a prior Developer Blog (http://forums.galciv3.com/461709/page/1/ ) I talked about all the cool stuff you can do in the Custom Race tool. We give you a bunch of images, traits, abilities and settings to create whatever race you want.

But, if you really want to make something unique you can go so much further. In this post I’ll talk about how modding works in Galactic Civilizations III and show you how I used it to make a new faction for the game, the Ghosts of Abbadon. ...

We are hard at work creating the next Galactic Civilizations III beta and we will have a lot of fun things for you to play with. But I wanted to talk about one of my favorites, Custom Races.

First off there are 2 ways to create custom races. First you can add them as a mod (but more about that in a future post). For this post I wanted to talk about everything you can do in the in game tool to create a wide variety of unique, interesting and weird species to populate your universes. ...

I saw the following as I was reading through the GC3 change log:

+ CBattleGfxObjectShip:: UpdateMovement: Calculates a quaternion rotation at the given path point
+ CBattleGfxObjectPathData:: PathPoint: Removed yaw and pitch, replaced with orientation
+ CBattleGfxObjectPathData:: GetTransformAtTime: Now uses spherical interpolation of quaternions to calculate rotation matrix of the shipEither the GC3 programmers are making up words (always a possibility) or we have a team of ver...

Dropping 32bit support was a huge change for Galactic Civilizations. On the one hand we know that it means that there is a percentage of potential customers that won't be able to play the game. On the other, we are able to do things we could never do before, such as play a game with 100 players, which is exactly what I did this week.  The following is the results.

*** Disclaimer ***

The following if from a super early version of the Beta 2 build. You will see some bugs a...

This will be a fun week for Legendary Heroes.  On Tuesday we will be release the 1.6 patch as well as updated to the Quest, Loot and Dead World DLC.  Overall this is a balance patch based on lots of playing (this is a process that can go on forever in games like this).  But we also have a few good things in store.

There is a fix that improves the randomness of item generation which is a significant fix, especially if you have the DLC’s (the more items you have, ...

The full story of Legendary Heroes is a long one, but it started with a promise.  In November of 2010 War of Magic had shipped, it wasn't doing well and Brad promised to provide 2 free expansions to anyone who had purchased it.  This is a very unusual thing for a company to do, but as an outsider it impressed me that Stardock was that committed to their games and their customers.

So I went to Michigan to meet with Brad and I accepted a job at Stardock making video games for a li...

What is Legendary Heroes?

It's an expansion for Fallen Enchantress that adds the following:

1. A new Champion progression system.  Instead of random traits your champions have a trait tree that they can use to select traits as they level  up, grow your champions the way you want.2. The ability to recruit special non-human champions.  Champions aren't just humans anymore.  Rare opportunities or quests may unlock champions of various monster ra...
